Green Iguana sex

I have a question as to the sex of our green iguana. It is approximately a year and a half old but I don't know how old they have to be before you can positively sex them. From what I read on the internet it has all of the signs of being a male; the pores on it's legs are all the same size, it has a notch in it's dewlap, the base of it's tail looks slightly swollen and mushy. The local vet here opened it up because it had abcesses in it's stomach and he said he saw the ovaries, although he doens't know a whole lot about reptiles. Also I read on the internet that males sometimes "masturbate" and the lizard has secreted a semen like discharge twice. So my question is, how old do green iguanas have to be before you can positively sex them and what exactly is the semen like discharge? Thanks in advance!
