As I have pointed out in the past and I'd put a $1,000.00 on it, that iguanas can feel or sense high and low pressures, moon phases, planet alignments or jet streams....it's one of those, that play a part in how they eat. I'm sure breeding season plays a role somewhat, but I strongly believe that either major fronts or related pressures are picked up by them and play a role in their eating habits.
If there's people here that fish, then you know that fronts play a role in whether the fish are biting or not. Even though they're under the water, they can sense pressures and can either be feeding like crazy or shut down completely.
I can only think of one way to research this, you would have to take siblings of the same hatch and divide them up and relocate half the hatch in a northern location in North America and the other half closer to the equator, to be able to see if pressures from major fronts play a role. Unless you could setup and pressurized cage system and adjust the pressure inside....hummm there's another idea.
