Hi Bon,
I agree with you.
Here's my story:
I bought Stone at a pet shop. At the time, the thought of looking to adopt one didnt even cross my mind. I regret buying Stone, now. Although I love him/her very much - I wish that I didnt contribute to the breeding that is going on. I cant turn back time, but, now I do tell people to adopt over buying. (even though I didnt... I try to make up for my mistake). And, I recently rescued Zoe from a family who didnt care for her.
I would never buy an ig from a pet store again - however, I dont condemn those that do. I preach to them the joys of adopting in the future.
I think the best way to be helpful is to teach nicely & not be angery.
I wish people would learn first, but many dont.
I had an ig years ago & she died because I never learned the right way to care for her. Now that I have Stone & Zoe - I come here to learn as much as possible - and help when I can. I dont know it all, I never will. If I ever give bad advice or anyone thinks I am doing something wrong - please correct me. THAT is why I am here.
Oh & one more thing: there are a lot of people here, learning like me... there are a lot of long time experianced people here as well.... BUT I never take all the advice as "bible". You have to understand that everyone has opinions or suggestions... you have to weed through them & go with the flow.
In the meantime, welcome new people & encourage them to do right by their ig - thats our goal.
Again, as always - I thank all the people who have helped me w/ my igs - I would be a nervous wreck without everyone here.
It takes a tribe to raise an iguana!
-Kimberley
