would he be willing to spend some time reading one of the ig-sites? maybe if you recommend it "since you're going to get an ig, you might as well know about them ..." sort of thing???? and try to come off as helpful instead of trying to talk him out of it????? (it'll give him room to back down ...) maybe a bearded dragon since they're smaller ... hey .. they look more like dinosaurs than igs! (NOT to pick on bd's but they might have a better chance ....?)
