You should clean shedded skin out of the cage as soon as possible and not allow your iguana to consume it. Here's one of the problems that can happen from eating shed material; the shed from spikes can get blocked in an iguana's intestinal track and lead to needing major medical surgery. It appears that shed material does not break down while inside their system.
We try to remove (not force) any hanging shed on our iguanas to make sure that they don't get a chance to consume it.
