Hi
My 2 cents:
I would not be concerned about the false positive results as much as the false negative results!
Salmonella is tricky. Even if they have salmonella it may first of all be "hiding", lying dormant. Secondly and even more important, it's "intermittant", which means that you can only find it in the faeces now and then. You may test it as many times you like and not find it, but never the less it has salmonella. I've heard about animals that have been tested a LOT of times with negative results and still they had Salmonella! The problem is that if you do the test and get a negative result you may rely on it and stop being as careful with the hygien as you should and get infected.
Another thing, treating salmonella is something that is VERY dangerous. What science is REALLY scared of is for Salmonella to get multiresistant, since this could really be a danger to all humanity!! This is why treatment of salmonella is only done when it is ABSOLUTELY necessary, it's better to let it be and selfheal! There are a few strains of salmonella that is multiresistant and they cause some deaths every year!
