::LAST SPRINKLE A GOOD REPTILE VITAMIN ON THE FOOD NO MATTER WHAT ANY ODY TELLS YOU THEY NEED VITAMIN AND CALCIUM::
I am curious as to your reasoning for the above statement. What resource are you using to substatiate this opinion?
One of the largely accepted opinions in the field of iguana care is that if the animal is fed an appropriate, well balanced nutritional program, the addition of vitamin supplements is incidental and may or may not be beneficial to the animal. This is true especialy dependent on what type of supplement the person has chosen to use.
Secondly, if you are going to pass out information on what an iguana needs, it might be a wise idea to clarify your statements so that a newbie owner won't get confused as to what you are talking about. This directly applies to calcium supplements as there are so many on the market that are not good for iguanas due to the addition of D3.
Lastly, vitamin and calcium supplementation is exactly that -supplementation. The majority of the vitamins and calcium need to be coming from natural sources. It needs to be stressed that filling an iguana with vitamins and calcium will do little to no good if the animal is not being fed a good diet in the first place.
It is VERY important when sharing information, especialy with a newbie, that we all are very careful in how we word that information. It is also an excellent idea to share a link or other resource to support the information you have shared. Commercial suppliers such the ones you mentioned are there to sell supplies, not teach people how to properly care for their animals.
Just a thought...
