Black lights will not emit enough uvb to be sufficent. Tests show that event the best fluorescent tubes (such as the zoomeds) do not emit adequate uvb beyond 12 to 18 inches when new. Thus, the lizard must be induced to bask within these limits from the tubes. Is the black light a round bulb, or a tube? Only tubes should be used for uvb. There is a combo bulb on the market called UVHEAT, but it seems to be still unproven. Most iguana keepers rely on the zoomed tubes as I mentioned before. We leave our uvb lights on all the time that the heat light is on, which is about 12 hours a day. I have included a link to Melissa Kaplan's pages which will explain the need for uvb.
