He went back to solid food three days ago, whoohoo!
I discovered that the inflamed area is not solid tissue, it is filled with huge pockets of caseous icky stuff. I can't get it all out at once so I am removing what I can each day to expose as much of the infected living tissue to the medication as possible. It is very important to get between the infected area and his upper teeth as that area traps a lot of detritus. He get's a drink of cool water before and after each cleaning to keep his mouth moist and is behaving quite well for everything he is being put through. My friend Melinda (insert sad violin music) who had a really cool, extremely healthy iguana she was forced to give away when she moved out due to not having enough time to devote to him, told me that if you make a sss sss sss sss noise, really soft with lots of little hisses, that it hypnotises them. It worked very well and stopped his struggling when we were cleaning his mouth.

The infected area is shrinking horizontally. It used to extend over his upper teeth, but has now shrunk to where it is about three millimeters away from his upper teeth. it is still about the same height, but the front went back down quite a bit when I removed a really big caseous pocket from it on friday. I have checked that spot every day and made sure to put the providone iodine on it with the calendula tincture (antibiotic) and it is healing nicely with no signs of reinfection there. I noticed that as I remove dead and caseous tissue and treat the exposed areas they heal fairly rapidly and expose more dead stuff that I wasn't able to reach before. I think that if I just continue along those lines it will be all right. I am also going to try a comfrey poultice on the outside of his head, since it won't hurt anything and it has been recommended as a good anti-infection/irritant thingy. He didn't want to eat yesterday, but I got him to take is vitamins and he drank lots of liquid. He also has lots of energy and is running around like usual. I also discovered that he really likes Enya, which is a little odd, but oh well.
talk to everybody later and keep ya posted!
