The black tail MAY be OK. It sounds like it broke. Both my male rescues came with injured tails that had black sections. Woodstock's feel off and Felix still has his. The tail may try to regrow but will not grow to the length of the orginal tail.

As mentioned, there is also a form of gangerine that is black. Only a vet will know what you have.
