Well, I went to see the iguana today: the one I mentioned a few posts below with the blackened skin. She wasnt as bad looking as I was expecting. She has some black patches on her back & by her neck area. They look like scars almost. It may be bacterial because fungal looks fuzzy & this doesnt look fuzzy. It almost feels like a scab.
I brought her some collard greens & dandelion - when I put it in front of her, she ate it like there was no tomorrow! My heart goes out to this ig. I am rescuing her. I cant take her until 2/10 though due to construction in my home & I need to build her a cage.
Here are my thoughts on the black area: please respond....
I am going to treat some spots with a fungal cream (Lotrimin?) & some w/ an anti bacterial cream. I figure after a few days I should see a difference on one of them. I will bathe her in Betadine baths.
I THINK it may be from a poor diet...(this is what she was fed - Lettuce was the main meal, sometimes some carrots, bananas or apples) - there is also NO UVB, and no heat source except the horrible hot rock. The rabbit is no longer in the cage with her, but there was still rabbit feces in with her. The substrate is rabbit bedding. She JUST gave it a water bowl the other day. I dont know if she thought lizards dont drink but....
AND, its never been bathed - EVER!!! She started spraying it a few weeks ago.
I dont think they mean to treat the ig bad... but they just dont care about her anymore. They had her since she was about 9 inches I'm guessing from what they said. And she said that it grosses her out & her son doesnt take care of it (he is only a little kid).
I wish I could take her sooner... but at least I know she will be rescued soon.
Any thoughts & comments are always welcomed.
I also plan on getting her to the vet as soon as I can ...
