Hi. My sister went to pick up my niece tonight at a school friends house & saw a 3ft (female?) ig in poor conditions. The woman offered to give it to her & my sister said she would ask me.
My sister said that the woman "just throws a head of lettuce in its tank for it to pick off of" because it is "too time consuming to shred veggies". It has NEVER been bathed or misted with water.
My sister said it looked "ok" under the circumstances. Except, she said it had some black scales the size of half dollars & quarters on its back. The woman said someone told her to spray it with water/betadine mixture.
So she has been doing that. My sis said she opened the cage & pet it & it pushed its body into her hand, seemed to enjoy being touched.
I'm in the process of finishing out basement so I will have room & planned on adopting an adult (I have a juvie now) when the basement is done. Well, the project will be done in 2 or so weeks. I am THINKING of saving this
adult before it is too late. But, does anyone have any idea what the black scales can be? And, is the betadine/water mix a good idea? Before I adopt it I would want to make sure it didnt have mites or anything. I mean, I KNOW it
will have to see a vet as soon as I get it, most definitely. Who knows if it has MBD or anything. Oh my god. All I can think of is this poor og eating lettuce.
Any ideas on the blackness would be helpful.... thanks!
