Ohhh I can hear the can of worms creaking open as we speak....;) Well, here goes.. Personally, the Mrs. and I feel that while "diets" and "salads" can be good for treating certain things for a limited amount of time, in the long run they can actually create one or two problems of their own. Imagine eating that bowl of spaghetti that Nubs dives in twice a day every day. Gets pretty boring doesn't it ? (Not to mention annoying - having to wait around for a lizard to splash through your food before you can eat it) And even though these "diets" and "salads" have a variety in and of themselves, they too can become boring to an ig. And despite what people say about making a large amount of it and then freezing - well, while it may be convenient for humans, if you have to go and suppliment the frozen foods with Brewer's yeast etc, why not just take the 10 minutes and make something fresh ? We are on a constant rotation of greens and veggies around here. Fruits are mostly used as treats, inculding the occassional banana. (Boy, I can hear the worms banging to get out...LOL) If you like, check out our page on nutrition at The Iguana Spot - link below. It may give you a bit of an idea as to what we do around here. Oh, btw, instead of the calcium spray on the veggies, try the Tums* trick. Fruit flavored Tums* seem to work very well and could save you some money too...;) I know it sounds like I say that flippantly, but in all honesty, in the last year alone we have both seen products out on the market that, in our opinions, do nothing for the ig and only make the human's wallet MUCH lighter. So if we can accomplish something using something other than a "brand name" product we do it whenever we can.
Keep in mind that it may take a few months for Nubs to regulate things within. No more than yourself, when you've been sick for an extended period of time, it takes your body awhile to flush out any toxins and get things back in proper working order before any forward progress can be seen. That may explain the large amount of pooping that's happening right now. Could be Nubs just eliminating toxins. I'll be willing to bet that withing another month or two you'll start seeing some bulking up. Just keep the food variety going and make sure that there's a full bowl in the enclosure at all times during the day so that whenever Nubs feels like snacking it's not a problem to do...;)
One more quick tidbit, when we brought Dharma back to the vet for her followup, her bloodwork came back with slightly elevated (higher than normal) calcium levels. We had stopped the Tums* 2 weeks before that visit but kept the collard greens in her diet....;) If managed correctly, we believe that, although occassional supplimentation is fine to kickstart things, naturally occurring vitamins and minerals are a much better way to go in the long run. ;)
