Hi,
Well desert iguanas do not get big. Males are normally 16-18 inches long (with tail) and females are normally 14-16 inches long (with tail). I am thinking about getting them and putting them in quarrentine. Well it would only be three now...I was informed today that the real sickly one passed away during the night. Now there are 2 healthy ones and one sick one. She said she would give them all to me if I pleased. I was wondering if you could give me a list of stuff you normally feed your iguana. I am looking for a list of safe stuff for iguanas (I have a list of safe stuff for my box turtles and beardeds and would like one for iguanas). Well I will let you know what I end up doing about these three guys.

One part of me says hurry up and get them to try and give them a chance to live. And the other part says that you want no part becasue you will have them long enough to get attached to them.

Thanks,
Scott

: my 1st thought is that alot of people THINK they are taking very good care of their ig when they're really going on mis-information (a polite way to say they don't know *@%& about igs ....) if the calcium rich diet consisted of spinach, swiss chard and bok choy ...... well .... that'd be the problem ..... OR they could've gotten too much calcium supplement .... could be sooooo many different things ..... maybe those 2 igs were sickly when hatched/caught .....
: guess it depends on if you have the time, energy and money it'll take to get them healthy ..... and if she's now GIVING them instead of selling them, the monwy you've "saved" could go towards that .....
: i don't know about the disease part .... but you'd want to quarrrentine (?) new animals anyway to be on the safe side ....
: the soft-hearted part of me (didn't know i had one, didja!?!?) says "oh hurry up and rescue them!"
: also some will say you should return them to the wild since they're wild-caught ..... (i'm not even getting into THAT discussion....)
: don't think i'm helping much .... you sound like a reptile kinda person tho .... i'd be inclined to tell you to go for it, if you've got the time + $ to do some nursing of igs for awhile .....
: i hope you have a BIG house *grin*
: hey .... how big do desert igs get anyway?????
: THAT would make a BIG difference too ....

: best o' luck whichever way you decide!
: keep us posted ok?

: happy herping to ya!
: :P + :)
