Cosmos,

I, too, have had experience with a kidney-damaged
iguana. My Q was diagnosed with kidney damage
when he was five years old and lived to be nearly
seven years old. If he hadn't died of an unrelated
condition, I think he'd still be with me.

It looks like you're doing a great job learning
about Odlan's condition, and you're already doing
all the right things. I've seen that you've
gotten great information from iZ's mom here and
from Melissa Kaplan on the IML. I won't repeat
what they said because I agree with just about
all of it.

I do have a couple little things to add.

You mention that you are bathing your iguana
several times a day. In my opinion, once a day
is fine for health purposes. Giving him several
baths a day may be stressful to him. Now if the
bath is his favorite place in the world, then
you're doing the right thing. If not, I'd suggest
fewer baths. (My vet told me that iguanas could
absorb some water through the cloaca, but I've
heard many who don't believe this to be true. So
I do not have a definite answer to this question.)

About your iguana's throat swelling, my Q had this
symptom, too. I found that the more active Q was
the more his throat tended to swell. Also, I found
that when Q slept with his head elevated, his
throat swelled less than when he slept with his
head level with his body. So, I encouraged him
to sleep and bask at an incline. I also took his
throat condition into account when preparing his
food. When the swelling flared up, I'd cut his
food smaller and select foods that were easier
to swallow.

I hope this helps a little. My best to you and
Odlan!
