Welcome to the forum. Sounds like your setting yourself up for an iguana that's going to be spoiled!! Getting a chance to free roam will make them NOT want to be in a cage, that's for sure.
Here's some free roaming suggestions:
1) make sure the floor is clean of dust bunnies, hair, small objects, plants, etc... Iguanas love to taste things and with dust bunnies, they stick like glue to an iguana tongue. Plants should be move to an area they can't get to, until you can figure out which plants are poisonious and which are not. Also, all glass objects should be taken off shelves, coffee tables, etc... if they get knocked over and break, your iguana could cut their under side by the broken glass.
2. Check for any small holes that your iguana could crawl in to. The reason for this is, they can get into small spaces but can't turn around and backing up with those spikes isn't easy to do. Areas to watch for: Refrig., washer/dryer, vents, cabinets (check for holes in wall, inside cabinets), large entertainment centers, etc...
3. When Spring gets to your area and warmer temps let you open the windows, DO NOT let your iguana close to an open window! Window screens can come apart and your iguana could get out of your house in last than 1o seconds. If you want to let your iguana sit in the window, install some wire fence on the outside of the window to assure that your iguana won't get free.
Keep posting here and you'll find many excellent answers to questions.
Best wishes,
HD
