I'll take the money part, since the rest seems to have been covered. If after reading the previous responses you find yourself thinking "hmm, this could get expensive," you couldn't be more right. Most of the expense comes in the beginning when you start fresh with all needed supplies, and varies depending on the initial "housing" you choose, which, as stated, the smaller you start, the more expensive it is in the long run. Additionally, expect your utility bills to cost a little more also, due to lighting, etc. (however, with only one iguana, which would be *strongly recommended, it shouldn't be a *whole* lot, I would think).

I'll assume that in your research you are also assuring that you have access to a "herp vet" which you will definitely need. Unfortunately, all too often we hear "I'm not near a vet" or "I can't afford a vet." Iguanas *need* to go to a vet. If you are *very* lucky (and I do mean *very*) you will only need the vet for check-ups. But if you are more like most of the rest of us, if not all, there will be other instances your iguana will need to go a vet (illness, accidents *do* happen). And if your even more like some of us, you will need medical care as a result of one of these accidents, such a when my ear required 5 stitches from an ig bite, which resulted in that additional expense.

I personally keep what I refer to as a "vet account" which is simply an envelope that I deposit money into each pay day to have available for such times. I also add a dollar a day, just to help build the account in a way that seems small each day, but surely adds up in the end.

Good luck with whatever you decide. This is surely the place to be if you decide an ig is for you (oops, I mean your son :-)
