IMHO, I would strongly advise against buying froma petstore. If you HAVE done some research, you would have found atleast one story about "petstore-igs". I've attatched a link to teh "Buy VS Adopt" section on my webpage. There you will get a glimpse of how horrible some IGs have it.

Are you aware of teh risks that come with owning an iguana? (ie: Salmonella, Breeding Agression, SHARP Teeth tha won't hesitate to take a munch out of you if provoked)

I would strongly suggest NOT letting your son handle the iguana. Although he may seem old enough, his immune system MIGHT not be all that developed to defend the salmonella. Like with puppies, young children are not advised to be handling fragile things, juvie/hatchling IGs are FRAGILE. (have you ever seen an "itty-bitty" IG? lemme tell ya, SMALL bones)

Many iguana's are aquired because the parents children justr beg and beg and beg to get one, and they promise to take care of it, and feed it, etc. BUT the responsibility is tremendous, and far too great for a 10 year-old. You will find yourself taking care of teh iguana all by yourself, and as the little "fad" or should I say "craving" for this neat thing wears off, you will find yourself "stuck" with the iguana, unless YOU are willing to take on full responsibility of this iguana and take him/her in as your pet. (IF he loses interest) Your son will dump the IG with you, go off to college, and YOU will have one BIG lizard on your hands.

The Males often turn agressive during breeding season, and he females a "bit" cranky. Females also get the chance of being egg-bound (oh yea, female ig's lay eggs every year, male or no male, they're just not fertile).

SOO, I'd like to end this "oh so darn long" post on a high note: CONGRATS, you are one of the few people who actually do their research BEFORE they purchase this soon-to-be-monster reptile. :)

Hope this helps!

-Lesya
