There's been a lot of posting concerning diets lately...and I've been trying to get my .02 in without stirring up a hornet's nest. It saddens me when I see iguana keepers blindly following one or another of the so-called ig expert's diets. In my opinion the top 3 diets on the net all have good bases...they're just not complete on their own. Since I took in my first iguana, a rescue of 48 inches and 1.5 pounds, I've fed a combination of all 3 of these diets. I feel it's as complete as I'm able to provide with what's available, and I get good results with little supplimentation. I only suppliment with NeoCalglucon or a multi-vite when I have gravid, MBD stricken, or really sick kids here. That 1.5 pound rescue turned into a gorgeous, 53 inch, 12 pound girl in less than a year. I have a lot of respect for Melissa, Kevin, Jen, and several other ig peeps, including a few very knowledgable folks right here....but I also had an extremely healthy foster ig here that was fed nothing but a pelleted diet that they use at the University of Florida Vet school. After converting her to fresh foods, she thrived on that just as well, and blood panels were terrific, no significant changes in the year that I had her. So, who's to say which diet is better than others unless you tried them all for a good period of time? I'm happy with my conglomeration, and so are my lizards, whether it be green igs, Cyclura, or Bearded Dragons. Even the Sulcatta torts are doing well on it!! Now, does anyone wanna come help me chop the 5 gallons of greens I need for tomorrow's breakfast? LOL No cheese included.....
