But the upper and lower jawbone so separate slightly to allow for passage of rodents 1 to 1.5 times the size of the widest point of the body (and those heads are tiny in comparison!). I think the myth here that you're looking at is that no, the jaws aren't completely separated and free floating, but they do have some incredible adaptations that I guess could be loosely considered "unhinging." They don't yawn to realign their jaws for nothing. :) Anyways, I applaud you for putting together a list of some of the horrible misconceptions that people have about these beautiful animals.
