You were a great owner and I think you should get another one-- you will probably never get over this until you do and realize there is nothing wrong with your care ( I too suggest an adoptee).
I understand how you feel because my last adoptee was my most beloved pet... and I did not do everything properly but I certainly did not feed him a diet of dogfood and cheese-- or care for him in the horrid way that I see many iguanas cared for (I researched constantly, but info was wrong and limited back then). Anyway what makes me sick too, is I see iguanas fed horribly and they lived longer than mine too. You still have every right to inform people of the proper care of an iguana. They don't have to know how long yours lived. What is right is right. And, I believe heredity does have a lot to do with things, but yours could have easily had parasites which cause loss of appetite.
Please consider adopting again once you have time to devote (and if you have a qualified vet at your disposal for stool samples and bloodwork, I don't think you have to worry as much.
I remember after my first adored bird died as a child, I had horrible nightmares about me neglecting my birds (even though I didn't). I had these for years until I got another bird as an adult. He has now passed on, but I haven't had another nightmare since I opened my home to that next bird.
