At the moment I'm a college student (if our iguana had lived, since it was a family venture my parents would have been doting on it as a family member, it would not have been discarded like many are). I hear a lot of fellow students who have iguanas because they think it's cool. In fact, on the bus on the way back to my apartment after my last final exam this past semester a girl was talking to me about how her boyfriend has an iguana and how it will only grow to the size of its tank. Many times I have tried to inform people who are misinformed. But at the name time I have this nagging thought in my mind that their ten-gallon aquarium, iceberg lettuce fed iguanas lived longer than mine did. When I hear people being slammed for that kind of stuff I really feel I wasn't any better because despite all the long months of research and making sure everything was perfect, we killed a poor iguana. It's just heartbreaking. I will continue lurking on this forum to continue learning about these beautiful animals and maybe someday in the future when I can on my own offer the time, space and care necessary, perhaps I will adopt. Thank you for all your responses.
Sincerely,
M. Theresa
