The orange coloring could mean that it is a male.
The tail does grow back, or at least a portion of it. More will grow back if it is young... the older they are, the less that grows back.
You should really check out Melissa Kaplans site on Iguanas for some help in getting this guy well. Good luck & let us know how it goes
