1. The rock was unplugged this morning. I bought a ceramic light fixure heating element yesterday. It brought the cage up to 78 in his sleeping area last night.

2. The UV bulb, and basking lamp are both 16" from him, and the cage had an average temp of 84 this morning.

Thanks for the input

On a side note I need to say something in my defence. THIS IS NOT TO CONDON THE USE OF HOT ROCKS!!!!!: Zig was never in direct contact with the thing, It was my first rock from when they first suckered me into buying one of there 10 gal starter set. I hear about ig's being burned by these things from day 1, so I placed it in an old sock, and then a bath towel was draped over it, this is how it has always been. I never placed him in direct contact with the thing. The only black on his stomach or tail that I have seen were from his strips, the rest of his belly is your typical ig green. This responce
is not ment to condon the use of these things. By placing the sock and towel around it, the temp of the towel was warm to the touch, but would not burn you. I would NOT condon the use of these things with out some sort of insulating medium placed between it, and what every was laying on top of it.
