Lisa,

Do not mention letting the iguana go outside to animal control!!! Big no no, they won't do that, instead they'd probably take the iguana and if they can't find a home for it in a few days, they'd put it down.
Now finding the iguana is going to be tough, after hearing just where it went into. If there's any holes behind the cabinets, it could be anywhere behind, any cabinet or it could of found a hole somewhere and yes.....went up inside the wall. It also, and I hate to say this, could of gotten stuck, if it did get inside the wall. Sometimes iguanas will crawl into a tight spot, only to get wedged into it and they can't back out. Let's hope this hasn't happened. You can take the top end of a broom and tap the walls with it and see if you can get the iguana to start moving again, to help locate it( it's worth a shot) Try the above cabinets first then move to the lower ones. You may need to make a few openings in the back walls of your cabinets, one by the oven and one by where you lost it. Also, leave the cabinet doors open, if it gets out while you're away, you'll need to check the apartment completely because they can hide in almost any place and can be pretty hard to find, just out in the open.
Also, please explain to these guys, that catching a wild iguana is not the thing to do. If they want to help.....put some proper food out every day for it, to assure that it's getting the needed diet. But don't mess with trying to catch it. They're lucky it wasn't a full grown male in season....they might have had their hands full !!!
If I lived closer to Florida, I'd offer to come down and help you .....sorry...VA is just alittle too far from FL.
Hope you can find this ig
