Well,..have been treating a minor case of mouth rot with a product called Rid Rot. It seemed to be controllng the infection as far as spreading but, was not curing it. Last night I'd decided it was time for a vet visit. Talk about karma...I woke up this morning and freaked out as I noticed a huge and I mean huge swelling on his side just in front of his hind leg. It actually ressembled the kind of blister caused by a burn. However, this seemed impossible. Dude (my ig), could not have got close enough to his lights and also the location of the injury. Having received several referrals to supposed good reptile vets I made the calls. Either they weren't in today (Saturday), or couldn't see me. I had to settle for a clinic I found in the phone book and I knew nothing about except that they told me they treated reptiles. So off I went. I was very worried as to how Dude might react. I was pleasantly suprised. He was very tolerant of the situation. I was a mess though. The vet said it appeared to be an abcess or some form of dermatitis. He prescribed Amoxi drops, 0.5ml for 14 days and Liquichlor with cerumene topically for 14 days. he removed the dead skin and took Dude in the back to give him a shot of amoxcil. This is the only time he acted out by scratching the tech but then, who can blame him. My concern is, the topical med. contains prednisone and I'm very leary of steroids. The vet also said this would all get rid or the mouth rot. The liquichlor is for external use only. Applying it to Dude's mouth (his lip actually) worries me due to indgestion. Is anyone familiar with these meds. I won't be able to get a second opinion till after the weekend. I'm sorry to ramble on so but...I'm worried sick.
