When you first posted about this person having this iguana,....I DID catch a few warning signs but didn't draw attention to them. I wanted to wait until you adopted this iguana before explaining the problems I caught from reading your post.
As I said before....90% of ALL pet store employee's DO NOT know what they are talking about!! I figured there was some deep concerns for the well being of this iguana.
First off, you're right....get rid of the litter ASAP. I just hope there isn't internal problems from it and there just maybe. Second, as someone has posted, rib showing can be a number of things and automaticly I would suggest a fecal sample be done as soon as possible on your new iguana. This will rule out worms and then I would suggest focusing on diet. Get a weight of this iguana at the Vet and also at home. You can do this by standing on a scale holding the iguana, then stand alone on the scale and read it. subtract the difference and you have a rough idea on weight. Watch this for the next couple of months. Also watch the base of the tail....if the upper area just on either side of the ridge is sunken.....your iguana is losing alot of weight and needs medical attention ( most likely it's serious enough for a Vet to take over treatment)
If your iguana doesn't like water, you can use newspapers in the litter box.
Best wishes, keep us posted
