peg board top?

i have another question tonight, i am moving temporarily and with the cage i have now, i wont beable to keep it warm enough so i am converting a sink cabinet i found at my work in to one,i think it is going to turn out nice, its wood on 3 sides so i am going to put that metal cloth on the inside so he can climb, and use that as a door too. i was going to put it on the top too but after reading a previous post message, i was wondering if using peg board on the top would be to thick or maybe block heat from the bulbs and uv light, could i use pegboard top? do i have any options rather then a screen top?
