I would suggest, limiting the number of kids who come up to pet your iguana, like 3 to 4 at a time. If your iguana isn't use to being around strangers, I would be concerned. Not only are you putting your iguana in a strange place, but you are also having unknown people around the iguana, this could bring on some unwanted stress at first.
What we do for shows and things, is bring a cage with us and cover the front of the cage so if one of our iguanas get alittle uneasy, we put them in the cage for awhile to calm them down. We also, only take NON biters but as mentioned is other post, we don't allow children around the mouth area at all and we watch all children touching an iguanas tail, since they probably don't know by pulling on it, they may break it off.
We also use a heating pad when at shows, another type of warming device would be a artist lamp, the type that swivels and bends like an elbow. These can be clamped on the edge of the table and directed over the iguana. Make sure if you use one of these, that you check temperatures where the iguana will be laying and have a few different wattage bulbs handy, incase you have to change it out for a lower wattage one, to get the temp down.
I would also recommend pointing out some of the reasons, NOT to get an iguana. It will be a hard task to change some childrens minds on this because all they will see is a "cool" looking lizard and want one. This kind of thinking will only last about the first 2 weeks.....then they'll realize that the cool lizard....is a real pain in the A.., to take care of! Our daughter last week got a first hand lesson on this, she now knows that she doesn't want ANY lizard when she's out on her own. Waking up every morning an hour early, took it's toll on her!!! LOL The old, tapping into HER time, has made her realize...lizards are not worth having, cool or not....she can NOW live without them.
