: Some 7+ years ago I lost my beautiful iguana Magilla when she became egg bound & couldnt pass them. The vet tried to help her but was unable to save her. Since a long time has passed since I have owned iguanas (couldnt get over losing her to easily...) - I now have a juvenille iguana named Stone. And I am looking to adopt an adult. Can anyone tell me, in these years that have passed, is there a way to prevent iguanas from becoming egg bound? I worry about this happening again. I had Magilla for about 5 years before she died... and she was my best friend.
You asked a good question , it seems no one knows for sure. See Samcin"s post. I am a firm believer in spaying - the procedure is taught in many continuing education programs so lots of Vets perform the procedure. The anesthesia is much safer than the last time around for you. Good quality nutriton and plenty of Cacium with UVbulbs should really help. Seriously consider spaying.
