I understand where you are coming from~~ I do not like to see igs suffer either. But since they are not an endangered species there is no way they will leave them out of the pet trade. So you will undoubtedly have people buying them from petstores. I know that Iguana's make horrible pets, and most people do not take care of them right(mostly from lack of knowledge or Money) My iguana is a royal pain in the butt and lately with being in heat i am wondering how much abuse i can take! As far as babys being easier than adults...I think that is all relative. There teeth are smaller but they might be crazy wild...Big ones might already be tame, but then again they might go into breeding season and then one bite can take off a finger.
As far as pet stores go i think most people have been in good ones and bad ones. The good ones always give informed info and take care of there animals. Sometimes you can turn the bad stores around. Sometimes the people are just misinformed about how to take care of things. If you let them know in a nice way they seem to want to change. If you get on there case and get mad at them they tend to want you to leave.
It's not like i don't believe in adoption! I have adopted many of my cats. It is very sad seeing all those poor kittys in tiny cages when all they want is some love.
As for my iguana i bought him when he was around 3 years old. He had been rejected twice by his previous owners and so the pet store had him back. He was in a glass tank and just wanted to come out. I had been doing alot of reading on iguana's and considered getting one. After holding him i just couldn't put him back in that cage. I knew what i was getting myself into and I knew i could give this iggy a very happy and spoiled home. This store had iguana's of all sizes and had them in to small of enclosures with nothing to climb on(they at least had the proper heating & lighting) So as a customer I told them in a friendly way what I had read about iguana's and how much room they needed and about needing things to climb on. Also i printed out a care sheet and left them with a stack to hand out to people buying there igs. A month later i made it back into that petstore and they had made this great inclosure!! There iguana's looked much happier and were all basking in the branches.
As far as stopping pet stores from selling iguana's and or any other animal is just not going to happen. Yes adoption is good but as with everything in this world you can't jam it down people's throats. Just my point of view~~ Since you already had issues with this guy why bother with any reply? That is all i was trying to say~ Tif
