Normally I use a ceramic heat emitter/element (CHE) too. They are expensive...but I am still on my first one after two years of continual use. So actually it is cheaper than bulbs - seems like you're always replacing bulbs. I hate bulbs!
In the winter I also use human heating pads and put them under the whole cage (still wrapped in a towel). For the huge cages, they go under the reptile carpet. Again, expensive but I'm still on my first ones.
Heating is one of the big iguana expenses.
