Marisa...although I know your heart is in the right place, you may want to work on your approach. As they say, you catch more flies with honey. Trust me, I've been in this situation many times and you can make suggestions...but you will not convince everyone.
The idea wouldn't be to scare this person off for future care related questions.
I do think it is best to adopt an iguana, but I have done both rescueing and buying (Sleestack was bought from a petstore) Others here fell for one in a petstore that was neglected and bought them to save them. Everyone has a different reason... mine was complete devastation and heartbreak after my first rescue died (had him about 6 years). I couldn't bear to take on another rescue at that time in my life and wanted one that I saw as perfect and healthy and young (that I could provide a good life for) Would I buy another baby from a petstore? Probably not, but am I sorry I have Sleestack?....No!!!! So I would be a hypocrite to not help those who buy a petstore iguana. I'll still suggest they adopt.
Just try to keep an open mind....help this person so he doesn't dump this iguana...but loves and cares for it until it dies of old age. It will all be worth it then.
