Hi everyone,
My oldest Ig Draco was found yesterday evening collapsed on the
bottom of his habitat, his colour was very pale and he
looked dehydrated, he still appears bright eyed and tries feebly
to whop me with his tail and has even turned and tried to bite
me a few times, which is really out of charecter for him lately,
he was totally unable to stand last night and was taken to the
emergency vet, who ran some bloods etc. he could find nothing
obvious, apart from him being dehydrated.
I get results back later today and will try and post them.
I spoke with Des (Vega$'s Mom) and she shared my fears that
it looks like possible renal failure.
We had a three way call with a friend of Des's (sorry can't remember her name) whose Ig
also was found under similar circumstances.
We decided it was top priority until I
get the blood results back to get my boy rehyrated,I have managed to
get some fluids into him overnight and so far today and he seems a
little brighter and stronger, has anyone else experienced a sudden
collapes of an iguana like this? or can anyone offer me any advice?
FYI... my currant vet is away on his annual vacation and the "locum"
has no experience with with herps, there is also no other practice
thast I know of who has a herp expert close by, although I do have a
contact number for a herp vet in Bristol who I will contact when I
get the results later today.
Draco is about 4 years old now, although he has always been badly stunted
since I got him as the result of former bad husbandry and care.
until he was 18 months old, he was fed on apple, cucumber and crickets,
kept in a 3ft aquarium with bark substrate, with a heat mat and no UVB.
since he has lived with me he has gradually improved, his appeitite has
always been poor and he often picks or misses a couple of days eating.
he has had regular checks at my vet and been treated in the past for
hookworm and protozoa, although routine checks have been clear for
12-18 months now.
Any advice, help or suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
I will try to post the blood results asap, if my computer stays working,
if not I will call Des and ask her to post for me.
apologies for the length of the post,
