In Reply to: Valerio ~ Calcium Carbonate dosing ... posted by iZ's mom on September 25, 2000 at 16:53:18:
I apreciate your help. The woman who brought the sick ig will continue to keep it, I`m just trying to consult her correctly. My own igs are healthy and big monsters, I even was lucky to hatch 10 babies this year from eggs laid by one of females. : if you need the reference numbers, here's my math on iZ's dose: : so i want a dose that falls between 360mg + 600mg ... : how much of a tablet is that??? : 360/750 = .48 of a tablet : i give him 1/2 a tablet per day ... another good thing about calcium carbonate is that it doesn't make him constipated!!! : very best wishes!!!!!

I use carbonate as well, there`s a large piece of natural chalk and shallow sauce of dry diminished egg shell in every tank with my lizards and sometimes I powder food with carbonate tablets also. It`s funny to see from time to time how igs (especially gravid females)come to lick and bite chalk if there`s need in calcium. Well, have a nice day.

: According to one of my vet experts, the dose for Calcium Carbonate for dogs/cats is 90-150mg per kilo per day ... This dose is for treating renal problems, but I'd think it'd be as good a starting place as any for treating MBD as well ...
: iZ weighs about 4 kilos
: 4 x 90 = 360mg
: 4 x 150 = 600mg
: one "TUMS" tablet is equal to 750mg calcium carbonate
: 600/750 = .60 of a tablet ...
