According to one of my vet experts, the dose for Calcium Carbonate for dogs/cats is 90-150mg per kilo per day ... This dose is for treating renal problems, but I'd think it'd be as good a starting place as any for treating MBD as well ...
if you need the reference numbers, here's my math on iZ's dose:
iZ weighs about 4 kilos
4 x 90 = 360mg
4 x 150 = 600mg
so i want a dose that falls between 360mg + 600mg ...
how much of a tablet is that???
one "TUMS" tablet is equal to 750mg calcium carbonate
360/750 = .48 of a tablet
600/750 = .60 of a tablet ...
i give him 1/2 a tablet per day ... another good thing about calcium carbonate is that it doesn't make him constipated!!!
very best wishes!!!!!
Bon. + iZ
