: Hi Everyone - I have a couple of questions to ask about new baby Merlin. OK, I lied, I have alot a questions.

: 1) If Merlin is about 3 1/2" from snout to vent and 13 1/2" total. About what age would you think he is? Assuming that he is good shape, which he seems to be.

Growth depends on a lot of different things, so it's hard to know his exact age. He's probably 2-3 months old, just as a guess.

: 2) What does shedding actually look like in the beginning?

Pretty much like what you described. :) Sometimes they just look more dull than usual, colors not so bright, and sometimes the skin that is ready to be shed is kind of brownish. Raising the humidity will definitely help him shed good, and ensure that all of the old skin comes off. Make sure that all of the spikes and the toe sheds come off completely. Those can be problem areas sometimes.

: 3) We bought Merlin a basking log made out of catus, (spelling). You know, the plant in the desert. He seems to love it. Give him a good foot, not that he needs it with those wrap around toes. Anyway, are these good for ig's?

Yup! :) Just be sure to clean it thouroughly if it gets pooped on, and if you use bleach make sure it is rinsed *really* well since it's woody and porus and will tend to absorb the bleach.
