tail necrosis

My 2 year old male ig has newly been operated for tail necrosis. One inch of his tail was removed. It has gone about a week since the operation and the looks of his tail scares me. The tip/wound looks black and dead about 2 mm(/10 Inch). What should a proper healing tail look like. Will this black bit breake of, or has he gotten necrosis all over again?
