So, we(the USA) import thousands of baby igs from South America, where they are "farmed". We don't even know whether they are truly farmed, or just females caught and held till they lay eggs. The eggs are then captive-hatched, and the babies are either sent here, or raised to be eaten. And what about those "horrors of shipping" that everyone either gets very emotional about or pretends to ignore? How do baby igs get here? And what diseases can they pick up in transit?
These issues need to be addressed at the same time you explain why we DO NOT BREED IGUANAS in USA. I think it's better to have a concientious captive breeding program in the US. It's NOT captive breeding that creates the overpopulation, and allows every Joe Shmoe with $15 to buy an iglet. If you severely limit ig importation, the prices will go up, the constant supply of iglets will stop, and breeding will be the only alternative to have ig's available. Do we REALLY know what's nessesary to do, to "save" igs?
