is because it can produce bacteria easier than plain humidifiers. Also, humidity will dry out quicker if it's heated first. It's kinda why people run humidifiers in the winter, because the heating systems take so much out of the air.

PS also it's not good to use cold water either, things start to grow in the humidifier if you use cold water and those things which grow are NOT good for either igs or people. I try to use room temp for the most part. Water changes should be made at least once a day, if your system is not doing that much, then lower water level so that you cycle clean water into the humidifier at least once a day. The longer water stays in the tank, the better chance of something growing in it.
