Theoretically, you could feed a carnivorous animal a strict vegetarian diet..but you would have to supplement pretty heavily. It's like people who are vegetarian..it can be done. But considering how hard it is to find all the right stuff for the true vegetarian lizards, why mess with what nature gave them..carnivorous/ omnivourous reptiles are made to digest meat and/or insects.
I know vegetarians who want to feed their dogs and cats vegetarian diets..there are some on the market.
So, it can be done. I don't like feeding live prey to reptiles for a couple of reasons, but that's why there's mail order pre-killed stuff..
I say if someone has a problem with their insect-eating reptiles eating insects, why not choose a different pet?
