I have only one word... YIKES!
My new little Max Q left me his first seminal plug this weekend.
What a shock! Even though he's a rescue, we have a pretty good
estimate on his age. We've calculated him at 10 months, but even
if we allow for a little error, he can't be more than a year old.
Q's first owners gave him up when they realized how big he'd
get, but his diet and setup were decent for the few months they
had him. Since I got him in May, he's doubled his weight (from
5 oz. to 11 oz). He's only 8 inches SVL (27 inches STL). Even
before the plug, I could tell Q's male because of the size of his
femoral pores (with their teeny tiny little femoral pore plugs)
and the telltale hemipenal bulge is clearly visible.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Q seem to be maturing
a little early? With my first Q, I don't think I saw his first
seminal plug until he was 2. I also never had any real difficulty
with him during breeding season. Now I'm worried. Will the
little Q be on the other end of the spectrum? (I can't help but
wonder... when did Harry hit sexual maturity?)
Someone tell me this does not mean the little Q will grow up to
be a hellion!
