The cage you're going to build sounds fine except for the width. 2 feet for an adult isn't going to cut. I think Harry's cage is 3 1/2 feet wide and it should be wider. He's only 4 years old and not done growing.
For anyone who read JNelson's post and is wondering about the snake and children comments, let me explain. This reptile show is also (or usually is) an exotic animal show. When we went last year, they had all sorts of animals (exotic and not so exotic). My fear (and its been expressed by others who will no longer atttend this show) is you'e got rabits there (you can pet them). You've got snakes that you can touch or whatever and people walking around with snakes. You've pet the rabbits (you now smell like them), you walk past or pet or handle a snake and the snake *might* think that you are a food source! Its an accident waiting to happen.
For anyone reading this and lives in the Mid-Atlantic area, I would highly recommend attending the MARRS Show (in Baltimore). Admissions/raffle proceeds go to purchase and save acres of rainforest. This show is organized, good seminars/presentations, etc.
