Hi all.....well, today was interesting, to say the least! I have never seen so many reptiles in one place!!!!!! Samcin(don't know if that's your real name, but I read your post earlier)...I met Patty and Darra (sp?)at the NIAD booth and said hi for you. They were really nice. Pretty busy too. They had a sweet rescue named Elizabeth there. She had a lot of scars from hotrocks and over half of her spikes were missing. Good example to show people who were thinking of buying an Iguana. There were other People walking around passing out fliers. One couple threw one at me when they saw me walking out with a large reptarium. They were concerned about baby rubbing his snout too much on the screen. I let them know that I was only buying it for a little outdoor exposure to sunlight each day and that it wasn't going to be his permanant enclosure. It probably won't last long anyway once he becomes a big bugger, but right now he's only 16 inches so I think it will be safe. My husband has designed a neat enclosure which we will be starting on next week. It will be 4 ft wide, 2 ft deep and 5 ft tall. Let me know if you don't think this will be big enough. The door will pull down and either lay flat or become a shelf where Baby can come and go as he pleases. Hard to explain but anyway, We won't be starting it until next weekend. When I let the couple know this they were fine. They were holding a beautiful male Iguana. His coloring was gorgeous and he had a lot of orange on him, probably due to mating season I guess?? Anyway, it was fun to be able to pet the grown Igs since I'd never seen big ones before. Sue2...you were right about the crowds!!! It was packed. I only saw four vendors with baby Iguanas so I guess that's good news?? The first one I saw was selling these little guys for $10 and they looked pretty pathetic. The other vendors ranged from $4.95 to $8.00. The $8 Ig's looked pretty healthy. The guy at that booth had a beautiful 2 yr. old that he was trying to sell for only $50. I asked why and he said that It wasn't tame at all but was a "beautiful show animal". He seemed nice. I talked to him about the forum and thought maybe he might want to post a little more about it. Someone might be interested. Mostly we saw Chamileons, Bearded Dragons (TONS!), Frogs and a zillion snakes! (Sue2, you were right about the python thing....they actually had a booth where they were letting children get in and have their picture taken with this 18 footer for $5!!!!! The kids were seated inside it's coils!!!!Never in a million years! I don't care whether the snake's been fed or not! I could just see my kid being the next person on Real TV with this thing wrapped around her neck!!!! LOL) My son (14) absolutely loved the show. Normally he is not too animated, so it was a real treat seeing my little boy come out for a change....anyone relate to that?? (Heh Heh) One positive thing that happened is that we found some really great inexpensive pieces of driftwood (2) for only $12. I still need to treat them, but they will be really nice when Baby's new house is done. That's a whole lot better than buying one at the Pet Stores for $40! I also got a 6 ft piece of bio vine for $6. Anyone have any qualms about using it? If so, let me know. The ends were sealed so there was no wire protruding or anything. The Arena was hot, dirty and smelly, but I'm glad we went and got a glimpse of a reptile show. Can't help but feel sorry for all the sweet little creatures cooped up in those little plastic tubs though. Well, this has been a long post. Hope nobody is bored to death by reading it! Let me know what you think about it. Take care until later. J
