It's going to be cheaper if you live in a rural area as opposed to a city, but this is basically what it comes down to here:
fecal: $8
general exam: $14 for a general yearly exam, $22 if there's something wrong and it's more extensive
blood work: probably around $50..general profile is $35, but you'd need the bigger panel to check calcium.
x-rays $45 if needed
I know the Nashville (largest close city to me) charges a *lot* more, though, for the same stuff. And our vet has an in-house blood machine so you can get the results in about fifteen minutes.
And I would recommend a fecal if you've never had one done. I just had mine checked even though I didn't suspect anything was wrong.
Good luck with the vet visit,
Katherine

: To all of you out there:
: Can any of you tell me about how much a general check up for an Iguana costs?
: Habib seems to be wonderfully healthy, but from reading about all the many things they can eat accidentally, and also about how they can become sick rather quickly, I've decided to go for the full Vet check up. Money is tight for me right now, so I wanted to know upfront about how much money I'll need to save ahead of time.
: Also,
: 1) What are some things I should specifically ask my vet to check him for? In other words, what do you consider to be essential in a general check up? Are x-rays expensive? Worth the money? A luxury?
: 2) Should I take a stool sample even if I don't suspect anything is wrong with him?
: 3) What types of things did you wish you had known to ask about or to do before you took your Iguana's in to the doc for the first time?
: Thanks guys--I find that the info I get on this forum is invaluable. I respect your opinions so much, and am grateful to have access to your experiences and ideas.
