On most of the spays we've done, the vet puts in absorbable stitches...those stay under the skin (you can't see them from the outside at all). When we do put skin sutures (the kind like the ig in the photograph has), they should be neat with a neat incision line when finished. Reptiles are different, though, since the have scales..a little more complicated. I have stitched a few dogs and cats back together (at the vets under general anesthesia..couldn't imagine doing one while awake). How did you get that ig to hold still, BJ? :) In fact, I did my first castration on a dog last week. That was cool...

Goliath (better not get any funny ideas about practicing castration on me)

: I was wondering...is it my imagination or the photo...but your Iguanas mouth doesn't seem to be closing properly. Looks like MBD... Has he been diagnosed with it? Just wondering. I've never seen stitches on a reptile before so I can't comment on them....looks like it was a nasty brawl ! I've had several spay and neuters of cats/dogs here...there stitches always looked yucky to me. But they all healed the way they were suppose to. Not like looking at human stitches at all. Ours look much neater.
