the thing with citrus fruits is the citric acid may cause mouth irritation or sores in igs ... and so it's generally suggested to not feed things like oranges ... they aren't necessarily "bad" for them, just something that you may want to avoid or feed infrequently ... your igs aren't missing out on anything vital to their health ...
iZ *Loves* oranges + that's what i know about ... and ya gotta remember that iZ is rather a special case due to his kidney/bladder problems ok??
i specifically feed iZ oranges *for* the acidity to help his bladder (like cranberry juice for human bladder infections??? only iZ doesn't like cranberry ...) ... i *do* believe that it *has* helped reduce (+ for the most part eliminate) the 'chunks' in his urates (a kind of bladder stone?? don't know for sure) ...
oranges have never bothered his mouth and since he likes them SO much, it's a great place to hide his various meds and it's a good way for me to get some extra fluids into him ...
and before someone asks or wonders ... *no* i do not think just feeding oranges will/would prevent kidney problems ...
(speaking of oranges ... oh oh! i need to get some before supper time tomorrow or i'll be in *biiiiiiiiiiiiiig* trouble!!! you haven't seen an ig throw a fit til you've seen iZ look at a supper plate + *not* see oranges on top!!!! *scary*)
