Ya know this is a much better link on MBD. I was in a super hurry so threw in that other one I had bookmarked (I don't even like that site I don't know why I still hang onto it). This one is by Tricia Powers and much better/accurate info there. Simple test...take a pencil with an eraser on the end. Go along the lower jawline and gently but firmly press the eraser end in....pliable , rubbery jaw? fibrous osteodystrophy/ MBD. MBD is very common especially in youngsters. If you think its mouthrot...which I highly doubt cuz mouthrot tends not to form lumps along the jawline but sores brownish looking scabs like in the corners of the mouth or pale pink fibrous yucky looking tissue more along the lip line....gently but firmly pull down on the igs dewlap to open its mouth and have a looksy. If mouthrot you will see yellowish, pale adhesions...kinda cheesy thick like hunks of lemon yogurt or pits of gunk along the inside jawline, & tongue (hope you haven't eaten recently!! lolol) This is very painful for an ig...not that having a breakdown of bone isn't....but you also will notice your iguana NOT eating at all mouthrot is that painful. With fibrous osteodystrophy...your iguana will eat until that bone is so deteriorated it hurts too too much to eat. I don't know what's happening with your ig there.
And like everyone else says take him to a vet (need a referral?)....its too hard to say what it is based on the info we got and since we can't see him....the vet will perscribe something....whether its calcium,Vitamin B, calcitonin (D) injections, or antibiotics. Much luck to ya..and please post back any questions or provide some more info ...we're here to help...we may throw in a lecture or two...lololol but we usually don't bite! Well everyone else doesn't anyway ;-)
