: Yep, that's some pretty crappy advice, right there. It's pretty *OLD* advice, too. It stems back to the days when people believed that iguanas were very much like birds. Birds need to be fed gravel so they can crush up the food in their gullet, I guess. People used to believe that iguanas did, too. They don't. They just get impacted and die. :-(

.... the top avian vets no longer recommend the use of grit with parrots and finches for exactly the same reasons. It should be used only with pigeons and doves.
