Definitely one of the saddest things in the reptile world, and one of the major contributors to state of that sad world. I can't express how much it sickens me to hear people say they would not take their "cheap" animal to a vet, or that they live too far from a herp vet, or their parents don't have time/money for the care of *their* herp pets, etc., etc. And worst of all is that they get the animals anyway.
It's bad enough when ignorance is the problem, but when people do know and they just don't care, it's animal cruelty at its worst :-(
